The following was taken from "History of Randolph and Macon Counties, Missouri," published 1884, St. Louis, National Historical Co. - O. P. Williams and Co., pages 92-95: "From the best and most reliable information that can be obtained, the first white man to permanently pitch his tent in what is now known as Randolph County, Missouri, was William Holman, who emigrated to Missouri in 1817 from Madison County, Kentucky, and located in Howard County, Missouri, where he remained until the following year (1818) and then moved to Randolph County and settled in Silver Creek Township."
