During WWII, Nadine worked in a defense plant in CA. Because of her small size, she was able to work inside the wings of bombers being built. She returned to OK after the war.
Ella Nadine Barnes, 85, of Stillwater, Okla. died on Wednesday, October 15, 2008 in Stillwater. Funeral services were held at 10: 30 a.m. on Friday, October 17, 2008 at Strode Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Charles Lester officiating. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Strode Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. She was born on February 24, 1923 in Payne County, Okla. to John Wesley "Ted" Hesser, II and Bertha Ella (Miller) Hesser. She married Eugene Lyle Barnes on December 13, 1946 in Siloam Springs, Ark. They farmed and ranched in Logan, Lincoln and Ellis Counties before retiring in Stillwater. She attended Eureka Consolidated School #2 and graduated from Eureka High School. She was a homemaker and a member of the Sunnybrook Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Chris Hesser and John Wesley Hesser; one sister, Caroline Keller; and one grandson, Jason Barnes. She is survived by her husband, Eugene Lyle Barnes of Stillwater, Okla.; one son, Robert Lyle Barnes of Stillwater, Okla.; one grandson, Patrick Eugene Barnes Keeling of Denton, Texas; one granddaughter, Diana Elaine Barnes of Connecticut; two great granddaughters, Jamie Christian Cromack of Connecticut and McKinsey Ann Keeling of Denton, Texas; one sister, Bertha May Rushmore and her husband Charles of Stillwater, Okla.; sister-in-law, Elise Hesser of Arizona; nieces and nephews, Cathey Wollenberg of Stillwater, Okla., Pam Allen of Stillwater, Okla., Tedella Stockwell of Colorado, Carol Dempster of Arizona , John Wesley "Bucky" Hesser IV Arizona; Chris Hesser of Arizona, Nancy Keller of Tulsa, Okla., and Dave Keller of Tulsa, Okla.; and numerous other relatives, and friends.
