Death. Montgomery County, Kentucky Order Book 2/469 for 1862, showing distribution of estate to heirs. William Allen was in Montgomery County, Kentucky as early as 1813. H e lived on the Somersett Watercourse, (property entered in the name of James Hig gins). In 1814 he had one black slave and 7 horses. Although I did not check all successive tax records, he was still on the Somersett with 166 acres , valued at $6,142. He had six slave over 16 years, 12 total slaves, worth $6,20 0. He had 8 Horses worth $400, 4 mules worth $120, 2 jennies worth $75, 16 cattle, worth $275, 1 stud or jack with a rate of 6 covers per season; 23 hogs ove r 6 months, worth $400 under the equalization law; total value for taxing was $13 ,612, at 17cents per $100. The value of Gold, Silver & other metallic watches and clocks was $5.00, at 30Cents per $100.00. In other words, He was a r ich man. 1857, William Allen is on page 1 of the tax rolls, with the same 16 6 acres on Somersett, worth $5,810. He had no children between 6-18 years of ag e. Oliver Williams was not on the tax records for either 1856 or 1857. REFERENCES: 1.
