Thomas Allison Carpenter, Feb 25, 1909 - Jun 2, 1948. Services for Thomas Allison Carpenter, 39, former Dallas attorney, will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Oakwood Cemetery in Corsicana. He died June 2 at the home of his sister, Mrs. Robert W. Austin, Bronxville, N.Y. Because of the serious illness of his mother, Mrs. Lewis T. Carpenter, the funeral was delayed. Services will be conducted by Dr. Jasper Manton of Dallas. Carpenter was graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1929 and from Harvard Law School in 1932. He practiced law in New York until 1934, when he was appointed by President Roosevelt as special assistant United States attorney general, to represent the government at the various United States Circuit Courts of Appeal. He returned to Dallas in 1936 to resume the practice of law. He was one of the organizers of the Western States Life Insurance Company in 1939 and served as its vice-president and counsel. At one time, he was vice-president and general counsel of Southern Paint & Chemical Company and was a member of the legal staff of Southland Life Insurance Company. During the war, he was a lieutenant in the Air Corps, serving most of the time in England. He was a member of the Highland Park Presbyterian Church and Phi Delta Theta fraternity at SMU. He is survived by a daughter, Shirley Carpenter; by his mother, and two sisters, Mrs. Robert W. Austin of Bronxville, N.Y. and Mrs. Ted B. Ferguson of Dallas.
